This role is primarily responsible for safe, reliable and efficient offshore operations leading the asset to decommissioned status. This role is a key part of the onshore support team and requires active and visible commitment to safety leadership


Job Dimensions:

Covers all aspects of Operations Engineering for the Area assets. The job focus is on the following areas:

Determination and ownership of all required Operations Engineering activities for the area 

Analysis and development of solutions to operational / process issues utilising the appropriate techniques, liaising with other relevant departments and engaging external specialists where necessary. Reviewing resulting studies to enable technical decisions to be made and to ensure timely and cost effective resolution

Development and provision of Standards, Safe Operating Procedures (SOP), Temporary Operating Procedures (TOP) and processes for the Area ensuring optimal performance

The incumbent may also be required to supervise a team of personnel as activities are defined and may be responsible for standing in / deputising for the Operations and Maintenance Superintendent as and when required

Owns the Asset Operations Risk Register and is responsible for driving mitigation ensuring suitable risk assessments and deviations are in place to allow continued operations



Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Proactively monitor, review and analyse plant and equipment performance and provide feedback to line management. Identify opportunities to maximise performance and apply and promote best practice. Conduct lessons learned with the goal being continuous improvement for operations performance

Periodic review and maintenance of Operational procedures, Platform Operations Procedures Manuals (POPMs), Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), Temporary Operating Procedures (TOPs), Problem/Opportunity Reports (PORs)

Operations representative for HAZOPS, HAZIDS, Root Cause Analysis (RCAs), Engineering Design KO meetings, MCDR Prioritisation and Risk Assessments

Performing duties in accordance with the Management of Change Procedure. Review and progress Problem Opportunity Reports (PORs) raised by offshore operations

Owning the Asset Operations Risk Register and being responsible for driving mitigation ensuring suitable risk assessments and deviations are in place to allow continued operations

Providing Operations input into decommissioning plans/workstreams

Assume responsibility for reviewing Workpacks in collaboration with offshore colleagues and ensuring operations input into workscopes

Assuming responsibility for approving discipline appropriate Maintenance Deferrals and Standard/Procedure deviations ensuring accurate risk assessments are in place

Ensuring that that departmental objectives and work plans are pro-actively met. Attend 28 and 90 day meetings to ensure plans are achievable and identify any SIMOPs

Developing and maintaining good working relationships with site personnel through effective communication and by making regular visits to installations to review ongoing work programmes and support operations personnel

Providing support to other members of the Operations team, including work direction, mentoring of graduates and chairing of team meetings

Performing as Delegation of Authority (DOA) including financial approval for Operations and Maintenance Superintendent as required.


Main Interfaces:

Liaison will be with teams within company, OSC/E&C and Drilling contractor and other subcontractor personal as becomes necessary in the course of the job

Emergency response experience preferable but not essential

Knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation in particular Safety Case regulations, PFEER and DCR

Proven track record of attention to detail and adherence to procedures with the aptitude to drive delivery

Ability/experience of risk assessment both offshore (ISSoW Level 2) and onshore (i.e. HAZIDs)




Qualifications & Experience:  

Good experience in a similar role for a UKCS Operator

Extensive knowledge of onshore/offshore oil and gas process and production systems

Experience of working in an offshore environment

Educated to BSc, preferably in an Engineering discipline and/or Chartered Engineer or equivalent

Member of relevant professional institution

Ability to motivate others to ensure that company’s objectives are delivered – with the interpersonal skills to listen to the views of others, capture good ideas and carry a team ethic whilst maintaining the objectives of the engineering team strategy

Ability to identify credible risks to decommissioning project, cost, reputation, people, asset and, where appropriate assist with the formulation of risk mitigation and management strategies
