Oil and gas operator currently have an opening for a Group Engineering Manager to join their team for a permanent role based in London.

Description:   The Role

•The Group Engineering Manager is a member of the Operations and Technical Functional team.

•Responsible for engineering and project functional performance

•Accountable for the functional assurance of the engineering and project deliverables for select define and execute phases of global developments.

•Accountable for the functional assurance of the engineering and project deliverables for select define and execute phases of global decommissioning activities (excluding wells)

•Leading through example, demonstrate that to be a safe and respected operator achieving industry leading functional performance in integrated field development solutions

•Employ key standards and best practice worldwide to improve the value of development projects in our operated and non-operated assets

•Provide functional leadership and direction to companywide engineering, development and decommissioning teams

•Provide support to Business Development activities related to new business opportunities



Key Accountabilities

Provide visible leadership in HSES and promote a culture of functional excellence.

•Assure technical quality in development planning through regular oversight (assists & reviews and audits) and communication (calls/meetings/visits)

•Develop, and ensure conformance with the appropriate corporate standards and procedures.

•Work with development and asset managers, & corporate functional counterparts to ensure that a fully integrated multi-discipline approach is utilised across the business.

•Act as a single point Group contact for key Group engineering and project related suppliers and contractors

•Understand BU risks and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are put in place

•Establish and execute a programme of corporate and external audits and reviews related to engineering and projects to ensure quality control and compliance

•Together with other Group functional leads be responsible for integrated functional assurance of all Production and Development activities and projects.    

•Agree organisational structures, staffing plans and recruitment plans for engineering and development projects

•Responsible for accessing consultancy help to resource peak load activities and audits

•Responsible for engineering input and development project review and assessment of acquisition activity

               

Major Challenges

 

•Collaborating with a diverse group of co-workers and stakeholders in remote locations and different cultures.               

•Influencing the BU engineering, project development and decommissioning communities such that the sharing of experiences and best practices is common place.

•Ensuring the operational perspective has been fully considered during project development and execution.

•Able to quickly identify and quantify the key issues during all phases of project development especially during design and execution

•An ability to offer collaborative assistance to BU project teams where appropriate

 

Reporting and management relationships

 

Reporting to:

  • Group Operations and Technical Functions Manager Direct reports (internal employees / external parties):
  • Facilities Engineer
  • Indirect (internal employees / external parties):
  • BU Engineering Managers, BU Development/Decommissioning Project Managers & Business Development

 

Qualifications

Chartered Engineer in appropriate discipline

 

Candidate Profile Skills / Experience:

•Honours degree (or equivalent) in Engineering;

•Strong track record in HSE leadership

•At least 15 years’ experience working in and leading field development activities

•Worked in diverse geographical settings preferably gained whilst working for a variety of Operators and/or contractor organisations;

•Highly developed influencing skills;

•Strong mentoring and coaching skills;

•Track record of management of professional technical staff and first level managers

•Highly proficient expertise in project management;

•Excellent knowledge of integrated asset management (including HSE, Drilling, Facilities, Contracting, commercial and economics)

 

Knowledge (e.g. systems, software, procedures, regulations):

•Aware of Upstream industry project activity

•Aware of industry capability in projects

•Relationship with key players within Upstream and Contractor leadership

•Aware of market conditions and lead times for key project long lead items
